Neonatal & Hospital Visits

The goal of Lekotek's neonatal program is to create a "homelike" environment for the infant while "living" at the hospital. For children hospitalized for an extended amount of time, a Lekotek leader visits the baby once a month with adapted toys to help the infant reach developmental milestones. When the child is released from the hospital, Lekotek services continue at Lekotek or in the home if the child is medically fragile and cannot travel.

Our vision is a world where children with disabilities are included and empowered through play.

Our mission is to facilitate the inclusion of children with disabilities into their families, schools and communities by providing accessible play, adapted toys, technology, information and resources.

DID YOU KNOW?

The word "Lekotek" comes from the Swedish word "lek," meaning play, and the Greek suffix "tek" meaning library. Lekotek is based on a Scandinavian model of early intervention and special education. Loosely translated, Lekotek means play library, but to the 7,000 families Lekotek has helped, it's so much more.
